Digital Communications Coordinator
Digital Communications Coordinator

Pickering College (PC) is recruiting a qualified Digital Communications Coordinator to work with members of the PC community to generate engaging and timely community communications on digital and print platforms in support of the strategic directions of the Communications Department, the Admission Office, and the school’s overall Strategic Plan. Reporting to the Communications Manager, this position supports ongoing communications projects and assists in keeping members of the PC Community informed and engaged as one of the school’s chief storytellers. This position has direct interaction with the Communications Manager and staff in Admission and Development. Important facets of this position include working with a variety of departments, faculty and staff.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Acts as a ‘roving reporter’ throughout the school community to generate relevant stories in support of the school’s marketing and communications strategy.
- Creates and maintains a number of calendars both for external and internal audiences with input from various school departments.
- Builds and maintains a robust editorial calendar for news items to be used on the website, e-newsletters and as digital content in social media.
- Generates on-campus photos and videos for use on social media and the school’s website.
- Executes and enhances the school’s digital media strategy with duties including managing the school’s website including AODA compliance and generating meaningful content across the school’s social media channels.
- Serves as the editor, liaises with departments and teachers to write, edit and produce PC Connects, a bi-weekly newsletter of school activities and programs that is distributed to staff, Senior School students and Pickering College families.
- Contributes to The Pillars magazine (biannually), the PC Report Card, and other school publications, as required.
- Proofreads school communications for errors of fact, style and grammar.
- Creates and designs content including videos, print materials, infographics, photos that help tell the school’s story and unique value proposition.
- Supports the school’s inbound and outbound marketing strategies, as required.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1-3 years of communications experience, preferably in a not-for profit, agency and/or education setting
- Demonstrated experience in corporate communications, marketing or advertising, preferably with a focus on digital strategy
- Post-secondary education in Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Corporate Communications, or related discipline
Demonstrated skill/ability in the following areas:
- Excellent writing, editing, proofreading and communications skills
- Proven photography, video editing and production skills
- Experience in social media management and use of Google Analytics
- Expertise in using Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office software
- Strong ability to multi-task within a dynamic environment as well as key attention to detail
- Demonstrated sound judgement, organization, decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Capability to manage changing priorities, concurrent projects and demanding deadlines with flexibility and a can-do attitude

Under the direction of the Store Manager, the Sales Associate will provide exceptional customer service and sales information to our community in the Hilltop Shop and Bookstore. Responsibilities include sales, customer service, inventory receiving and tracking, product knowledge and data entry. We are seeking candidates who are friendly and easily build rapport with clients, and who have previous retail and customer service experience and knowledge of the Pickering College uniform preferred. You are flexible with schedules, responsible, take initiative and are physically fit in order to move boxes and merchandise. You are computer literate, with a strong work ethic, demonstrating organization and communication skills. The work schedule is full-time through June, August, September and October, and part-time throughout the remainder of the school year (approximately 14-18 hours per week). The store operates during the school day, Monday to Friday, however during the months of June, August, September and October, the work schedule will include some long days, evenings, weekends and Labor Day.

Pickering College is recruiting a dynamic, qualified individual for our After-Care Program. The successful candidate must be very reliable and energetic with the skills to run a safe, fun and engaging program for primary students. The majority of the programming will take place outdoors.
The scheduled hours for this position are Monday to Friday 3:30 to 5:00pm.
Desired Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with primary children (teaching, day-care, babysitting or camp experience preferred)
- CPR and First Aid training

Manager, Parent Engagement and Strategic Events
Reporting to the Assistant Head of School, Advancement and working closely with Development, Admission and Communications team members, Faculty & Staff and extensively with volunteers, the Manager, Parent Engagement & Strategic Events works to develop and implement effective parent-facing programs, raise funds essential to the operation of the school, build Pickering College’s sense of community and enhance the school’s profile.
The role of the Manager is to organize and provide the avenues and events that improve the relationships of parents and alumni parents with the school, recognizing that the primary sense of parent satisfaction will come from their child/ren’s educational experience. By carefully stewarding these relationships, this position will strengthen and maximize goodwill towards, and participation with, the school, leading to volunteer and financial support in the long term.
The Manager is responsible, with the Development, Admission and Communications team members working together, to achieve annual event goals and objectives related to Special/Strategic Events, including fundraising, design, implementation, and evaluation with a view to meeting budget requirements and providing excellent experiences. Managing both the big picture and the bottom line, the Manager, Parent Engagement & Strategic Events strategizes with team members on the events portfolio, efficiently maximizing both revenue and relationship development.
The Manager will take an active role in stewardship through both planning and executing general stewardship events calendared throughout the year such as the Circle of Friends.
Qualifications Required:
- A successful track record in special events management of both small and large events, and fundraising development experience
- Minimum 5 years special events experience
- Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a broad range of internal and external constituents
- Demonstrate a high degree of initiative, discretion, discernment and resourcefulness,
- thoughtfulness in decision-making.
- Ability to multi-task with strict attention to detail and deadlines, to prioritize effectively, and to respond quickly to changes and requests
- Proven record of sponsorship development, including making pitches and successfully negotiating sponsorship agreements
- Proven experience strategizing, planning, implementing, and managing both fundraising and organizing special events
- Excellent organizational and time management skills

This 10 month contract position (late August 2022 – June 2023) requires you to become fully involved in campus life, academics, athletics or arts, as well as play an integral role in the boarding program. As an Associate Faculty you will function as a part of a team reporting to the Director of Boarding and Health Services to ensure that Pickering College’s Mission Statement and Vision are put into practice. As a member of the boarding community you will reside in the student residence providing supervision to student activities on a rotational basis in the evening and on weekends in conjunction with House Directors. In the day school, you will provide class coverage, support to online programming, program supervision and support to the co-curricular program.
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- Undergraduate diploma and/or degree required;
- Successful candidates typically have experience as a teacher, camp counsellor or tutor, and coaching or playing the sports offered at Pickering College;
- Applicants must be energetic, enthusiastic, and have a genuine interest in working with young people;
- Applicants must be comfortable using a variety of technology platforms (e.g. MS Office Suite, Google Hangouts, OneNote etc.);

Position Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Head of School, Advancement, the Development Communications Coordinator (1-year contract) works with Development Team members to generate engaging and timely communications and event promotion on digital and print platforms in support of the philanthropic goals of the school. This position supports ongoing engagement and fundraising projects and assists in keeping members of the PC Community connected and informed.
Duties and responsibilities:
- In conjunction with Development Team members, creates and maintains a calendar of parent, alumni, event and fundraising initiatives and the communications that support same, along with key school events
- Builds and maintains a robust editorial calendar for news items to be used on the website, e-newsletters and as digital content in social media
- In conjunction with Development Team members, executes writing projects from inception through delivery. This includes projects such as donor profiles, annual giving materials, appeal letters, annual stewardship letters, event promotion, capital campaign-related materials, stewardship reports, etc.
- Prepares compelling and persuasive communications supporting fundraising, strategic events, community awards (such as Class of 1842, 5th Pillar, etc.).
- Generates content and updates the Parent, Alumni, and Donate pages of the website as well as the Parent Portal as required
- Serves as the editor, liaises with Development Team members, departments and teachers to write, edit and produce Alumni Connects, a monthly e-newsletter, and the Thank You to Donors pages in The Pillars magazine
- Contributes to The Pillars magazine (biannually), the PC Report Card, and other school publications, as required
