On Tuesday, September 7 new and returning families and students joined Pickering College faculty and staff at a welcome BBQ on the front lawn of the school.
As part of our school's celebration of 100 years in Newmarket, the Pickering College Peace Garden, and Peace Pole, were dedicated during this event. The basis for having a Peace Pole is that each place of peace broadens the potential for world peace. Peace Poles can be found in 200 countries around the world.
Pickering College's Peace Pole is made from an ash tree donated by former faculty, Class of 1842 and Corporation member Jane Zavitz-Bond, from a farm now eighth generation Quaker owned. This Peace Pole, with the word ‘peace’ in languages of our students, will be a constant reminder to those coming to Pickering College of the need for peace in our world, and our school’s commitment to that goal.
