Speech Competition – two students represent PC at CIS competition

On Tuesday, April 20th the students in Grades 3 to 6 attended our 5th annual Junior Division Speech Competition.  This competition is the culmination of several weeks of work in and out of class by the students in Grades 4 to 6 as they wrote and then practiced delivering their two minute speeches.  The audience of students, teachers, and guests were treated to some wonderful public speaking on a variety of topics from some crazy teeth to the Leaning Tower of Pisa to the terrorist attacks on 9/11.  The students delivered their speeches with enthusiasm and confidence and are all commended for all their hard work.

The judges did not have an easy job on the day (thank you to Ms. Perry, Mrs. Downer, Mr. Barbanchon, and Grade 8 Leigh-Anne McKnight for serving as judges) given the high quality of speeches that we heard.  The winners in each grade are as follows:

Grade 4:  Katelyn Beswick who told us how to build a house.

Grade 5:  Hannah Floyd who explained to us the trials and tribulations of her teeth.

Grade 6:  Kevin Tan who recounted the horrible events of September 11, 2001.

Both Hannah and Kevin represented Pickering College in the Grade 5 and 6 CIS Public Speaking Contest at Royal St. George's College on Tuesday, April 27th.  Although they did not place, Hannah and Kevin did themselves and Pickering College proud at the competition.
