September 16, 2010 marked the 200th anniversary of Mexico's independence from Spain and 100 years since the revolution. Traditionally the celebrations for this historic moment begin on the night of September 15 and include lots of food, friends and family, and music. Our Mexican boarding students came together in the Student Life Centre to celebrate this important moment in Mexican history, singing and dancing while eating lots of delicious food! To conclude the evening they re-enacted the grito, or cry of Independence, at midnight, led by Grade 7 student Jose De La Garza dressed as revolutionary leader Father Hidalgo! Viva Mexico!
