Welcome Sally Benevides Hopkins, Senior School English
I most recently moved to Toronto from Nova Scotia, where I have been teaching ESL at Acadia University. Before that I taught in the Calgary Board of Education. Previously I taught in the music and education departments at a private university in the United States, and for 13 years in the North York/Toronto School Boards. I enjoyed teaching special education in Bermuda also. My initial teaching subjects are English and visual arts, and I hold Honour Specialist qualifications in ESL and Media Literacy. I am also qualified in Special Education, with additional study in the area of Children’s Mental Health.
I am so excited to be teaching English and ESL in the Senior School at Pickering College, and am enjoying getting to know the students, faculty and staff at the school. Pickering College has such a friendly atmosphere, and I appreciate the warm welcome I have enjoyed at the school. I leave a family and a small dog in Toronto each workday morning, but am happy to report that they are making the most of living in the big city. It’s nice to be back in Ontario! 
Welcome to our Associate Faculty!
For the 2010-2011 school year we'd like to welcome the new team of Associate Faculty to Pickering College. We welcome back Jason Wilson, Jonathan Robertson and Heather Spicer for another year, and we also welcome alumni Ali Joutsi ('06) and Amanda Lupo ('05) back to Pickering College to join the AF team. Joining us for the first time are Zachary Pollari, Kulin Matchhar, Nicole von Hollen and Laura Holland. The Associate Faculty work to support the faculty in the day school by supply teaching in the classes, coaching various teams, and chaperoning field trips. The AFs also primarily work in the residences to support the boarding students. Teams of three will work in the residences every evening to provide a home life, guidance, and emotional and academic support to our boarding students in Firth House and New House.
We welcome the new and returning Associate Faculty, and hope they all have an enjoyable year!
