Food, Glorious Food! Your Input Requested.

We are most fortunate at PC to be able to include a healthy meal program for our children as part of their educational experience. A five week menu cycle of day-to-day meals are complemented by special events like the Quebecois lunch for Carnavale, or our recent Local Lunch featuring foods from Ontario farms, during Green Week. In addition our Kindergarten to Grade 5 students receive an afternoon snack. Our Boarders are encouraged to bring ideas and recipes from their home countries to suggest to our kitchen staff. Aramark provides food services to PC and works in close partnership with the school, to balance nutrition with school programming, in the most financially responsible manner possible.

During the school year, we have a Food Services Committee with student and staff representation that focuses on meal choices, and this year began a focus on minimizing food waste. As this school year comes to a close, the school is doing some goal setting and planning for September and would like some input from parents to help prioritize our goals.

Your thoughts about what is working well and areas to develop next year would be very much appreciated. There are four food areas to consider:

1. Meal choice/variety 2. Nutrition 3. Environmental/Waste Reduction Initiatives

4. Communication/Awareness of Food Service Initiatives

Please send your comments and any questions by May 10th to

parents-ask@pickeringcollege.on.ca with FOOD in the subject line. Our parent and alumni relations team will be compiling the feedback and questions for review by the Food Services Committee. You can also call Anna Cook or Kim Bilous in the Development office to provide feedback. We will report back to you in June on the comments received and these will used over the summer in our planning for September.
