Owing to its Quaker foundation, Pickering College holds ‘Service to Others’ as one of the highest ideals of our school. Our Community Service Program teaches students that their help is needed and helps students to recognize they have some responsibility to help others. It also teaches students the value of their work in the community and provides them with invaluable opportunities to learn about the needs of other people. We aim to foster a love of service in each student. By graduation, students will have the skills needed to continue volunteering in their life ahead, as well as an awareness and sensitivity to local, national and international issues.
Our Service Mission
Our mission is to educate all members of the Pickering College community on the importance of service. We provide ongoing support for fun and rewarding community service opportunities. All students are encouraged to practice values-based decision making and social responsibility through service. Each student is actively supported by our faculty in developing his or her individual servant leadership skills.
Leaving a Lasting Impression
With the help of the Director of Leadership and Community Service, students complete at least 60 hours of community service while at Pickering College. Students are also taught the value of building servant leadership and charitable actions into their way of life, such that it rewards both others and themselves.
