Frequently Asked Questions about Annual Giving
What is annual giving?
Annual Giving is the foundation for all of our schools fundraising activities as is ongoing, year over year. Donations are received by our PC community and are put to use during the current fiscal year. Contributions are generally expendable and unrestricted and your gift will benefit and enhance our students’ experiences and learning opportunities. These donations are directed towards our Headmaster’s Initiatives and allow the greatest flexibility to address PC’s immediate needs.
You may also make a restricted gift by directing your support to a specific program/department or in tribute towards a teacher/student.
Please contact Kim Bilous, Executive Director, Development at the school about further information regarding our endowment funds and our scholarships and bursaries program. You may reach her at email@example.com or 1-877-895-1700.
Why does Pickering College need to have annual giving?
Pickering College is an independent school and a non-profit organization. The school is not “owned.” All monies generated from tuition fees are invested back into the school. As we try and keep our tuition fees reasonable, we ask that you contribute to the annual fund, as tuition only covers approximately 84% of our costs. Raising tuition to meet the school’s costs would mean that more families would require financial aid which would then mean more need for fundraising. Your gift to annual giving helps to bridge that gap.
Annual Giving is critical and allows the school to provide a competitive educational experience.
Do all independent schools have annual giving?
Yes, the majority of non-profit independent schools require annual giving to maintain excellence in their programs and facilities.
What has annual giving done recently?
Please find a list below of some of the items and program support your donation has supported:
- support for PC's new Global Leadership Program
- Louis Garneau spinning bikes for the Fitness Centre
- an iPad lab
- a great addition to our vocal music program. The Epson Brightlink 455Wi LED projector allows our students to create their own unique compositions with this front-line technology.
- 13 all-in-one desktop computers, keeping our students familiar with up-to-date technology and maximizing classroom space.
- intensive and innovative professional development for our teachers. Their honed skills translate into successful and accomplished students!
Plus so much more!
