Making the Right Choice!

With many excellent schools to choose from, how do you find the one that is best for your child?

Passionate, inspired and caring teachers; beautiful, safe learning spaces and a well-rounded curriculum that challenges and nurtures mind, body and spirit lie at the core of what makes Pickering College special.

At Pickering we strive to help your child find his/her own authentic voice, talent and passion; to develop a sense of confidence, compassion and a commitment to helping make the world a better place.

In your school selection process, we recommend the following:

Consider what is most important to you

How do the values of the school resonate with your personal values? Do you desire a smaller school environment that will help your child feel supported, understood, and able to confidently move forward in life? Want your child to maintain a passion for learning, a desire to help others and the confidence to be true to their self no matter the situation? Think it’s important to be exposed to and develop a respect for diverse world views? Believe that a good education is more than just academics and should not only prepare your child for higher learning but for life? If yes, Pickering College may be the school for you.

Do your research

While a great place to begin your research will be through the school web site and promotional materials, we also encourage you to speak with current PC families, students, alumni, faculty and staff. Let us know, and we’d be happy to put you in touch with a student, a member of the alumni, or family in your area to share their PC experience with you and answer questions. Learn about how they made the choice to come to PC, what impact a PC education has had on their lives and what they value most about the school.

Experience Pickering College

Finally, there is nothing better than experiencing PC first hand to round out your understanding of the school! There are numerous opportunities throughout the year for you to attend an Open House, an Information evening, a school performance or sporting event, or to simply arrange for your own personal tour at a time that suits you best.

To help your child feel confident and excited about the decision to apply to Pickering, we encourage you to register them for our Spend a Half Day* program where they can meet their future classmates, participate in our classes and join us for lunch. We offer the same opportunity to Boarding students who are invited to spend an evening in residence in addition to visiting our classes.

For those not able to visit in person, why not “virtually” visit and join us for a Skype discussion with some current students and staff! Contact the Admission Office to make arrangements.

If English is not your child’s first language, consider having them attend our Summer ESL Camp to work on their language skills and become familiar with living away from home and PC way of life.

Stay tuned into PC events by reading our school newsletter PC Connects or listening to the school radio station CHOP FM.

*Spend a half day visits available to students in Grade 2 and higher. Contact the Admission office for more details at admission@pickeringcollege.on.ca
