Rogers House

Pickering College is located on a beautiful 42-acre campus just 30 minutes north of Toronto in Newmarket, Ontario. Our majestic buildings speak to the history and tradition of Pickering College. Rogers House is home of the Joseph McCulley Meeting Room, where our Junior and Senior School community comes together for Morning Meeting, a Quaker tradition. In addition, the Hilltop Shop and Bookstore are also located in Rogers House.

Rogers House - Senior School

Our Senior School program prepares students for university while also encouraging them to make a difference in the world as ethical, compassionate and values-based decision-makers. Using the latest technology, including tablet computers and Internet-based learning tools, our academic curriculum focuses on excellence and innovation while ensuring students have a solid understanding of core subjects.

Rogers House - Learning Commons

The PC Learning Commons, located on the second floor of Rogers House, is a 21st century learning environment. This comfortable space facilitates and supports dynamic learning experiences that utilize the best available resources, technologies, strategies and learning environments. Students collaborate with others to enrich their learning. The Learning Commons creates a network of information, people and programs for learning within the school and beyond.

Rogers House - Junior School

At Pickering College, we offer a dynamic, nurturing and positive learning environment where your child’s curiosity is stimulated, leadership skills are cultivated, and fun-filled interactive learning is meaningful and focused. A low teacher-student ratio and small class sizes (approximately 16-18 students per class) provide an ideal environment for learning.

Headmaster's Residence

Our Headmaster, Peter Sturrup, lives on campus and often entertains parents and alumni in his home. At the beginning of the school year he and his wife Lisa host a dessert reception for our boarding families. The Headmaster’s Residence has also been a home featured on our Annual Holiday Home Tour that occurs each November.

The 40s Student Lounge

Our student lounge is a gathering place for students to meet, work on group projects and relax between classes. This space is available to students from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and is the central hub of activity. Located at the front of the school it provides an ideal spot for students to wait for pick up. The lounge also serves as meeting space for the wider school community.

Dining Hall

Decorated with flags from each country represented in our school, and a selection of art from the Pickering College collection, our Dining Hall is where teachers and all students eat together, family-style. The adjacent servery houses a salad bar, sandwich bar and soup stations as part of the hot lunch selections. Fresh fruit is also available. In addition to lunch, our boarding students enjoy a wide variety of breakfast and dinner choices.

North Field

One of three soccer pitches on campus, the North Field is also used by the Junior School Program for recess.

Health Centre

Located in New House, the Health Centre provides on-site health care throughout the day for all of our students. For boarding students, the school nurse is on call 24 hours a day and the school physician visits the campus regularly, or by appointment as required. Pickering College is committed to the protection and promotion of the health and safety of all our students.

Student Life Centre

Student life at Pickering is vibrant and dynamic. The program challenges students to be active participants in their school experience, to encourage mentorship amongst our Junior and Senior students and to celebrate the diversity within our community. The Student Life Centre in New House is used for a multitude of purposes, including meetings of the various student governments and committees on campus.

New House - Boys' Residence

Our residential environment aims to make students feel safe, comfortable and at home as quickly as possible. Students live in bed-study rooms, which hold two occupants each. The residence, which is a wireless environment, also has televisions, common-room areas and laundry facilities for students.

102.7 CHOP FM (Campus Radio Station)

102.7 CHOP FM is the only independent school CRTC-licensed, student-operated radio station. Broadcasting from New House, serving Pickering College and the wider Newmarket community, this fully functioning radio station provides a range of community-based programming including a live morning show, sports updates and feature programs all produced by Pickering College students. A live stream of CHOP FM is available through the Pickering College website homepage.

Front Of School

For those who come to know our community, the Four Pillars are an expression of all that is important to our school and are so aptly named Faith, Freedom, Friendship and Fun. The front lawn is the home of our annual Family Welcome Barbecue, Residence Games and our panoramic photo.

Firth House - Girls' Residence

The "Old" Gym

Athletics at Pickering College play an integral part in a child’s education. The school believes in the age-old saying, "A sound mind in a sound body." Athletics focus on teamwork, fitness and fun, developing skills, sportsmanship, health and wellbeing. In addition, athletics contribute immensely to the development of character and the learning of commitment and discipline. The “Old” Gym is one of two gymnasiums on campus.

South Field

One of three soccer pitches on campus, South Field is also home to our Annual Fun Fair. In 2013-2014, our U15 Girls Soccer team were Gold Medalists in CISAA Division II, our Junior Girls Team were Gold Medalists in CISAA Division II, and our Junior Boys Soccer team were Silver Medalists in CISAA Division II.

Baseball Diamond

Pickering College has Senior and U14 Girls and Boys softball teams that compete in CISAA. The baseball diamond is also used by Alumni when they return to PC to compete in friendly games with parents and staff.

Arena

Pickering College is the only independent school in Canada that offers the CanSkate program as a part of its Junior School curriculum. The arena is also home of The Hilltop Skating Club which offers CanSkate, STARSkate and Competitive Skate programs. Ice is available for rent during the winter season. During the spring and summer, the arena is the home of the Pickering College Badminton team.

Egan House (Gymnasium)

Pickering College’s athletic facilities field over 40 interscholastic and recreational sports teams over three terms. Egan House is home to our championship banners showing the history of our students’ achievements in many different sports. On Fridays, our full school, Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12, gathers in Egan House for Morning Meeting. In addition, there is a well-equipped exercise facility that includes a variety of aerobic and resistance training equipment as well as free weights, in nearby Rogers House.

Memorial Field

Named in honour of Pickering College students who served our country in World War II, Memorial Field is one of our three soccer pitches on campus. Our track is one of the few in the independent school system in Ontario with a rubberized surface and it is home to The Newmarket Huskies, an AAA competitive Track Club in distance running only (800m and up to the Marathon). Memorial Field is also the place where all our students, Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12, participate in our Annual Sports Day.

Blue & Silver Farm

Generously provided by a long-serving (45 years) member of our community, Mr. Charles Boyd, Alumni Ambassador, Blue & Silver Farm is home to our Outdoor Education Program. Located just five minutes from our school, students in all grades travel to the farm for activities such as snowshoeing, environmental science classes and nature exploration.

Equestrian Program

Pickering College students train at WaterStone Estate and Farms for our Equestrian Program, learning stable management in addition to riding and jumping. In 2013-2014 our team was overall Champion in each division (Entry, Novice and Open) and Overall team point winner of the Kildare Stables horse show.

Tennis Program

Our Tennis Team trains at Mayfair Racquet Club in Newmarket and competes in CISAA events.

Swimming Program

Our Swim Team trains at the Magna Centre located five minutes away from our school.

Golf Program

Our Golf Team trains at Rolling Hills Golf Club, 15 minutes away from our school and competes in CISAA events.
