Every student participates in Pickering College’s Global Leadership Program

At Pickering College, all students, Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12, benefit from the fully integrated, enriched programming of the Global Leadership Program. The Global Leadership Program teaches students to deeply consider the global context, and to develop the skills necessary to effectively participate in this context. Creative and innovative decision making drives all programming in academics and activities beyond the classroom.

Three aligned but distinct programs for Junior (Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5), Middle (Grades 6 to 8) and Senior (Grades 9 to 12) School students differ through the skills and academic instruction tailored to each specific age group, but all progress to culminate in an action-based Global Leadership Diploma.

Grade 11 World History students work directly with Greek and Roman artifacts in the Royal Ontario Museum’s collection. Analyzing primary source materials gives students an appreciation for the level of detail dedicated to even the smallest objects.

A group of Senior School students travelled to Iceland, braving the elements to walk/crawl in a lava cave, hike a glacier, ride Icelandic horses and see some amazing geological formations, including volcanoes, continental plates, glacial lagoons, waterfalls and geysers.

The school’s World Perspectives series welcomes speakers from a number of countries to address topics including social justice, entrepreneurship and cultural influence on how one views the world. Its purpose is to encourage students to consider the world from different perspectives and to think critically about our global context.
