Pickering College - Learning For Life. Creating The Future.

Health Centre

The Health Centre is located on the second floor on the east end of New House. The Main Health Centre has been designated as an isolation area and N200 (across the hall) will be used as a Satellite Health Centre when needed and will be staffed by the Health Centre nurse.

Everyone is reminded that the Health Centre is considered a high-risk area.

If the nurse is needed, staff should be calling Reception or the Nurse on-call phone (1-905-955-3652) before sending students over to ensure they are going to the right location and the nurse is prepared for their arrival. Students on spares etc. will be discouraged from going to the Health Centre to visit.

The Health Centre Illness Policy has been updated. Students are required to remain at home if they have a temperature over 37.8C or symptoms of COVID-19. If students have been absent with symptoms similar to COVID-19, they must not return to school until they are symptom free for 72 hours without the use of medication.

The Health Centre is staffed by one registered nurse Monday to Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and on Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Nurses rotate on-call overnight and weekends for the Boarding program.

Illness Policy

All faculty, staff and students are required to stay home when they are sick. Anyone with COVID-19 like symptoms and/or a temperature above 37.8C should consult their primary care practitioner and do the Government of Ontario COVID-19 Self-Assessment to determine the need for testing.

Quarantine – Boarding, Day and Staff/Faculty

Anyone with COVID-19 like symptoms should quarantine as per the Government of Canada recommendations. Day students, faculty and staff will be required to quarantine at home (off campus). Boarding students will quarantine in the Main Health Centre bedrooms and be cared for by the Health Centre and Boarding staff.

Daily Screening

Everyone is required to do a daily self-assessment before coming to work/school. Parents/guardians and Boarding staff are required to complete an assessment for each student prior to the start of the school day using a chosen app.

The nurse on duty will monitor the information gathered on the Edusafe app daily.
