Two U14 teams win championships in one day

U14 Boys Basketball team

On Tuesday, February 25, the U14 Girls’ Volleyball team hosted the semi-finals and finals at home in Egan House. They advanced to the finals and went on to win the championship in just two sets. This marked the end of an incredible season for the team, which is made up of Grade 6, 7 and 8 students and coached by Ms. Kyle Krause and Ms. Renee Merrick.

That same day, the U14 Boys’ Basketball team played in their semi-finals and finals, hosted at Lauremont School. The score was tied in the last quarter of the finals and with seconds to spare, one of the PC players got the ball and made a buzzer-beater shot to win the championship. The team is made up of Grade 6, 7, and 8 students and coached by Mr. Jay Fletcher.

Middle School students put their robot to the test

Egan House filled with Robotics Competitors

On Saturday January 25, Pickering College co-hosted the first VEX IQ Rapid Relay tournament of the year along with BotCamp. With over fifty teams (four of which were PC teams) competing in two fields for eight hours, the students had a great opportunity to gain experience of what robotic competitions are like. After hours of hard work, the students finally put their robots to the test with other teams and had a lot of fun competing. The team's Senior School mentors did an amazing job encouraging and supporting the Middle School competitors. Thank you to Ms. Mehta and Mr. Lazzaro for leading and supporting the VEX IQ program at Pickering College. Congratulations to Ben, Howie, and Karan whose team placed fourth in the competition! Amazing job to all participants!

SPARC celebration acknowledges term one partners and projects

SPARC students present gifts to community partners

January 22 was the last SPARC day of term one. To celebrate, the Middle School hosted an event showcasing the five project areas and what students learned over the last few months. Each group had the opportunity to officially recognize their community partners for their contributions. Newmarket Mayor, John Taylor was also in attendance to celebrate the accomplishments of our students.

Middle School students have now begun their new projects for term two while the Grade 8s are starting work on their My SPARC projects.
