School Information 2021-2022

A message from Peter Sturrup, Head of School

Over the past month, we have been working hard to develop a plan for the return to school in an environment that is as safe as possible for our students and staff.

First and foremost, I want to assure you that, unless prohibited by government or public health guidelines to the contrary, school this year will be in person for all students. We recognize that there will be students who may be unable to attend in person, due to visa processing times and/or travel restrictions. Therefore, we will support these students with a virtual learning plan that will provide a smooth transition to in person learning.

We are excited to bring our returning students back to campus and to welcome all our new students to Pickering College in September.

Necessary forms will be sent through Permission Click in the coming days and will need to be completed prior to the beginning of School, September 8.

Our return to school, and the safety protocols we are implementing, follow the guidelines set out by the Ministries of Health and Education. We are meeting or exceeding compliance with the orders and directives of local and provincial governments and public health.

Our preparations for fall have been guided by our strong sense of community that is a hallmark of the PC experience. Flexibility is a key part of our plans, as we recognize that circumstances may change and we are prepared to move to virtual learning quickly, if necessary.

If you have questions, at the bottom of this page are a list of key contacts.

We look forward to the 2021-2022 school year.

COVID-19 Safety Plan

Coronavirus

Road to Re-Opening

Pickering College has developed this plan based on guidance issued by the Ministry of Health of Ontario, Ministry of Health and Long Term Care of Canada, Public Services Health and Safety Association, the World Health Organization, the Hospital for Sick Children, the Ministry of Education of Ontario and additional information provided by other provinces, states and countries.

The plan is based on following best practices as they are established with the most up to date research into COVID-19. The health, safety and well-being of our community is at the forefront of all of the decisions.

The COVID-19 global pandemic is an evolving situation and as we learn more we will continue to update and enhance our protocols.

Boarding is OPEN!

Boarding

We understand that the decision to have your child attend boarding school is a difficult one. This year, like every other year, our planning centres on providing your child with the safest boarding environment that will be their "home away from home" for the school year.

There are many changes that we implemented last year for the sake of student safety and enhanced cleaning and disinfecting in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of these changes will continue for this year and we have added measures to enhance the air quality within the residences. Each residence room is equipped with a HEPA filter air purifier. We are dedicated to our "family atmosphere” and want this year to be as special as every other year. This year our Boarding Families will act as the only cohort (small group) of boarding students with whom they will live closest to and share bathrooms.

We will continue to provide the caring, nurturing environment on which you have come to depend and provides opportunities for students in boarding to develop maturity, self-confidence, independence and resilience. We want to work together with you to ensure that your child has the best experience possible under these unique circumstances. Rest assured, we will care for your child with attention to their well-being and success.

If you have any questions about boarding, please feel welcome to contact Laura Mason – Director of Boarding and Health Services at lmason@pickeringcollege.on.ca
