Do you desire a smaller school environment where students know their teachers and classmates well? Where students are encouraged and supported to do their best? Where students have the opportunity to try new things - be it creating a film, learning a new language, or hosting their own radio show? Where students study with highly-motivated classmates from Ontario and from more than 25 countries around the world?

High School is a pivotal time for self discovery which sets the stage for post-secondary and for life. At Pickering College, our Global Leadership Program strikes the ideal balance between challenging students to develop critical thinking and real-world life skills that can be applied to their university career and beyond. Our students are tasked not only with university-level primary and secondary research, but also with innovating, inventing and problem solving.  As a result of their studies, students develop valuable skills, including:

  • time management and self-reliance
  • advanced academic ability
  • strong research and writing
  • critical thinking abilities
  • dialogue, communication and presentation
  • leadership and mentorship
  • ability to design, invent and problem solve

Continuous Learning Plan

In-person classes every day / online if necessary

Senior School student paints in art class

All of our students, Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12, will have in person classes every day. In the Senior School, depending on student course selection, some classes will be online or off-timetable, if appropriate. Class sizes will be limited and physical distancing will be maintained within the classroom setting.

We recognize that there will be students who may be unable to attend in person, due to health concerns or travel restrictions. Therefore, our program will be flexible enough that any student unable to attend in person will be able to engage in the program in an online capacity without a diminished learning experience until circumstances change and they are able to join in person.

Highlights of our plan:

  • a carefully designed strategy for health screening of students and staff;
  • staggered arrival and departure times;
  • enhanced cleaning policies and procedures;
  • health and wellness activities;
  • designated iPads and Chromebook labs for Junior School to ensure each student has their own individual device;
  • a modified academic schedule that will support exceptional learning and enable a smooth pivot to online learning, if necessary.

Flexible and prepared

Our preparations for 2020-2021 have been guided by our strong sense of community that is a hallmark of the PC experience. Flexibility is a key part of our plan, as we recognize that circumstances may change and are prepared to move to online learning quickly, if necessary. We are confident that our academic program will engage our students in meaningful learning, whether that is in-person, blended or online.
