What sets a Pickering College education apart?

It’s belonging to a warm and welcoming school community that supports your child every step of the way through their academic journey. It’s a place where students are encouraged to discover who they are as individuals, and are guided to identify what they are passionate about so that they can thrive as values-based decision makers. It’s developing students into innovative, courageous and compassionate global citizens who go beyond theory and take action to make change. It’s instilling in our students an ability and a responsibility to make a difference in the world and leave the community better than they found it. It’s more than a school – it’s a community. Warm and Welcoming School Community

The teacher advisor program, Morning Meeting, family-style lunches and family-based boarding program foster a spirit of community and a caring, friendly environment in which our students thrive. At Pickering College, we remain true to our founding principles, values, mission, history and traditions. Students, parents, faculty, staff and alumni have pride in the school, and feel valued, engaged and connected. We are a compassionate community with extraordinary students who achieve remarkable outcomes.

Find your place ... and thrive

We offer a smaller school environment where students know their teachers and classmates well, and are encouraged and supported to do their best. They have ample opportunity to try new things - be it creating a film, learning a new language or venturing off for a weekend of winter camping. Students learn with highly-motivated classmates from Ontario and from more than 30 countries.

Take action and make change

The Global Leadership Program provides students with rich, meaningful and relevant experiences both inside and outside the classroom. The program is delivered through subject classes, mentor meetings, visits from industry leaders, field trips and excursions, clubs, teams and committees, to name a just a few. It teaches students to deeply consider the global context, and to develop the skills necessary to effectively participate in this context. Creative and innovative decision making drives all programming in academics and activities beyond the classroom.

The two-year Capstone Project requires students to independently research an issue of local or global significance, propose a solution, take action and assess the impact of their actions. Every project is unique and students are supported in shaping their solution through university-level research workshops, debates, meetings with mentors and outreach to organizations or businesses working in similar fields.

The Global Leadership Program provides Pickering College graduates with a competitive advantage, as a result of their experience in having their problem-solving skills tested in a teaching environment. Graduates are creative, innovative and courageous agents of ethical and positive change, true to Quaker values.

Ability and responsibility to make a difference

Pickering College was founded by Quakers in 1842 and while it is not a Quaker school today, the influence of their guiding values is immense. The role of Quakerism at Pickering College is a unique and defining aspect of our school. Retaining a close relationship with our Quaker heritage provides a philosophical, moral and operational framework for our planning and decision-making. Staying true to our Quaker ideals means:

  • Recognizing that there is good in every person
  • Providing a high degree of caring, compassion and support
  • Developing a strong social consciousness
  • Using consensus in decision-making
  • Emphasizing traditional Quaker values, such as non-violence and simplicity as well as the school values of community, compassion, integrity, respect and responsibility
  • Building our community through Morning Meeting

Staying true to the beliefs and ideals deeply held by our Quaker founders means continuing to be a school that combines academic excellence with moral depth. If this sounds like the kind of educational experience you would like for your child, please reach out to our Admission Office to learn more.
